Some sessions don’t go the way we originally planned—and sometimes, they turn into something even more meaningful.
This sweet family was originally booked for a maternity session. Like so many journeys into parenthood, theirs came with its own set of challenges and unexpected turns. By the time we were able to get them into the studio, their baby had already been earthside for six weeks. And honestly, it felt exactly as it was meant to be.
There was no rush when they arrived. No pressure to perform or meet some rigid expectation of what a “perfect” session should look like. Just a mom, a dad, and their baby—learning each other, loving each other, and settling into this brand new life together.
Momma wore one of the simple dresses from the studio.. a soft, flowing dress paired with a textured cardigan that wrapped around her like it belonged there all along. It wasn’t about dressing up for the sake of photos. It was about her feeling beautiful, comfortable, and seen in a season that can often feel overwhelming and tender all at once.
We moved slowly. We paused often. We let baby lead.
There’s something sacred about giving families space like that..... space to breathe, to connect, to simply be. The quiet moments in between poses became the most meaningful. Dad’s steady hands. The way mom instinctively held her baby close. The softness, the patience, the deep love that doesn’t need to be staged.
At six weeks, baby is more alert, more expressive. There were little curious eyes and those fleeting expressions that change in an instant. It’s different than a brand-new newborn session—but not less. Just honest in its own way.
This session wasn’t what we planned. But it was real.
And sometimes, real is far more beautiful.
