A one-year cake smash session designed around simple, natural color stories and a clean, cohesive flow from portraits to celebration.
The first setup featured a soft green backdrop. A matching chair was painted specifically for the session to keep the tones unified and intentional. Pink florals were cut fresh from a backyard garden, adding a natural contrast and keeping the styling organic rather than overly staged. The goal was a calm, balanced portrait set that still felt playful and age-appropriate for a first birthday milestone.
The cake smash portion transitioned to a lavender backdrop for a lighter, more celebratory feel. The mother provided a sprinkle cake, which worked well visually with the pastel tones and added texture and movement once the smash began. This setup was kept minimal so the focus stayed on the child’s expressions and interaction with the cake.
After the cake smash, the session moved into a tub splash cleanup. This portion serves both a practical and visual purpose, allowing for a reset while capturing some of the most candid and enjoyable images of the session. It also helps end the experience on a clean, refreshed note for the child.
As with all one-year sessions, complimentary family portraits are included. This ensures the milestone is documented not only as an individual moment but also within the context of the family it belongs to.
Each part of the session is structured to feel cohesive, low-stress, and visually consistent from start to finish.
I think being a photographer near you is the best job ever. I love my home studio in Lumberton, Texas and serving the lovely people of Southeast Texas.
