Congratulations on your new baby! Thank you for choosing me to photograph this special time. Newborns are my passion, and I feel honored to capture these precious moments.
Preparing for your session:Â I understand you're overwhelmed. I have two children and remember that feeling!
To help your baby:
Keep them awake in the morning.
Give them a warm bath and lotion before the session.
Gently straighten their fingers. This just gets them use to their fingers being messed with.
Feed them well before leaving the house.
Stay calm – your baby senses your emotions.
Dress them in something that unzips/unbuttons.
Session duration:Â Varies depending on your package, baby's sleep, and feeding needs. Expect some cuddling and soothing.
What to bring:
Diaper bag with essentials.
Pacifier (even if you don't typically use one).
Consider bringing gripe water or something similar if your baby seems unsettled.
If you have older kids
Involve them in the planning:Â Let them choose a small outfit or toy to bring for a photo with the baby.
Explain the session:Â Briefly explain what will happen during the session. Let them know the baby might need some extra attention and that they'll have some special photos too.
Prepare a special activity:Â Have a quiet activity ready for them to do while you're focusing on the newborn photos (coloring, books, a small toy).
Bring a favorite snack or drink:Â This can help keep them happy and occupied.
Schedule the session at a time when they are usually well-rested:Â Avoid scheduling the session during nap time or when they are typically fussy.
Be patient and understanding:Â Older siblings can be unpredictable. Be prepared to adjust the schedule or take breaks as needed. Remember that 2-3 year olds are still baby's too and if they were the only child, having a new sibling can be overwhelming.
Praise them for their patience and cooperation:Â Positive reinforcement goes a long way!
Bonus Tip:Â If possible, consider having a family member or friend available to help entertain the older children if they start to get restless.
I hope these tips help make your newborn session with older kids a smoother and more enjoyable experience!
I'm here to make this experience as relaxed and enjoyable as possible.
